Does the Stryszawa commune in the Podbeskidzie region hold resources that could impact the local energy market? In Lachowice, preparatory work has begun at the historic Lachowice-7 gas well. The project, carried out by Energia Karpaty Zachodnie company, is generating significant interest among residents and the local government, sparking a discussion about potential financial benefits, but also environmental safety concerns.

Preparatory work has begun in the Mączne hamlet area in Lachowice for the drilling site at the Lachowice-7 well. This undertaking is backed by Energia Karpaty Zachodnie, a company belonging to the Canadian firm Horizon Petroleum Ltd. Although this isn't about drilling a completely new well, but rather the reconstruction of an existing deposit originally explored in the 1980s and 1990s, the operational return to these plans represents one of the most interesting economic developments in Sucha County in recent years.
If the project moves into the extraction phase, it could bring tangible benefits to the region," says a representative of Energia Karpaty Zachodnie.
The work schedule assumes that after the drilling site is prepared, specialized equipment will be delivered, and key production tests will be conducted at the turn of August and September. Their purpose will be to examine the stability of gas flow and determine the actual potential of the deposit, which reaches a depth of approximately 2823 meters. The investor emphasizes that at this stage, it is still too early for definitive declarations about commencing permanent extraction, and all subsequent decisions will be based solely on hard technical data.
The potential commencement of gas extraction is a significant issue for the Stryszawa municipality, which administratively includes Lachowice. Local authorities, on one hand, see an opportunity for additional budget revenue from exploitation fees, while on the other hand, they place great emphasis on resident safety and environmental protection. During the planned production tests, residents near the investment may expect some temporary inconveniences, such as periodic noise or the sight of a flame on the gas flare, which directly results from the technologies used.
The project has the required environmental permits, and the investor declares full readiness to restore the area to its original state if the tests do not demonstrate extraction profitability. What exact technologies will be used, how have the interests of the local community been secured, and what do the various scenarios mean for the region?
